Front 02 · Community

The movement, where it matters most.

The people most likely to be hurt by predatory contracts are often the least able to afford help. This front brings contract literacy to them — for free.

Free programs · now delivered in Somerville, MA

Contract literacy shouldn't be a privilege. The family signing a first lease, the worker handed a confusing loan, the parent facing a stack of fine print — these are exactly the people the "fine print tactic" is designed to beat. This front of the movement partners with cities and public libraries to deliver the program at no cost to the people who need it most.

Delivered · Somerville, Massachusetts · September 2026

Somerville read the fine print. Here’s what they said.

This fall the Community front stopped being a plan and became a record. In September 2026, Leo Mann brought the program to Somerville, Massachusetts, with three of the city’s anchor institutions — the Somerville Chamber of Commerce, the Community Action Agency of Somerville and the City of Somerville. Every session was free. Nothing was sold in the room. And all three hosts wrote back afterward to say it was worth the time.

Somerville Chamber of Commerce

Small-business workshop

A session for Chamber members on the contractual traps business owners fall into — the lease, the guarantee, the fine print — in plain language.

Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS)

Housing-advocacy workshop

Hosted with CAAS’s housing advocacy team: the residential lease, read line by line, for the people who deal with it every day.

City of Somerville

Frontline staff training

A Train-the-Advocate session for City staff — market-rate, subsidized and commercial leases — so the people residents already turn to can spot the clause before it costs someone.

“Following up to say an enormous thank you for generously providing the city with yesterday’s workshop. It was deeply informative and engaging — it had me nervously looking for my own lease to see what’s on that fearsome page 6!”

City of Somerville
“Thank you for the workshop. We truly appreciate it. I’ve heard from multiple members how helpful it was. I’ve also talked to several businesses about the worth of hearing an expert like yourself explain, in plain language, the contractual traps we can fall into. The time was very valuable and we appreciate the opportunity!”

“Thank you Leo! That was a great presentation; I certainly learned a few things.”

Community Action Agency of Somerville

Your community is next. The Somerville model — free, co-branded, built around the paperwork people actually sign — is open to cities, agencies, chambers and libraries everywhere.

Bring it to your community

What every community program includes

Somerville set the template. Every program runs in partnership with a trusted local institution — a city, a library, a community-action agency or a chamber — and turns a familiar space into a place where anyone can learn to read what they sign.

Free to the community

Delivered at no cost to residents — funded through sponsors and grants, not the people we serve.

Plain-English & practical

The same real-clause, real-dollar approach — no jargon, no lectures, no shame.

Hosted where people already are

Libraries, community centers, and city programs — trusted, accessible, local.

Sponsor-supported

Credit unions, banks, and foundations fund delivery as community-impact and CRA-qualified programming.

The mission

To help ordinary people avoid costly mistakes, understand what they're signing, and gain confidence in the decisions that affect their lives — regardless of what they can afford.
